  • DPReview 8.9/10
It is an extremely well-rounded digital camera and suitable for a wide range of photographic and video needs. It packs outstanding image quality and very good 4K video in a lightweight, well-built package with in-body image stabilization. Autofocus is slightly less reliable than the competition and the buffer can be limiting for fast action, but overall, the Z7 is a pleasure to shoot with.
  • Imaging Resource
In many ways, the Z7 is Nikon's best high resolution camera to date. It is likely their best video camera thanks to advanced features and good quality. However, it's not perfect. The buffer depths are not particularly impressive, the battery life is subpar and the continuous autofocus does not seem as good as the Nikon D850. [...] the user experience is excellent.
  • The Digital Picture
There are some valid AF-related complaints. If one needs dual memory card slots, that's another shortfall. Those who need to track erratically-moving fast action in high speed continuous shooting are not likely to be happy with the EVF freezing momentarily after each shot [..]. The Z7 is a compact, lightweight, comfortable-to-hold and easy-to-use camera providing outstanding ultra-high resolution images, great video capabilities and a very strong overall feature set
  • Amateur Photographer 10/10
Z 7 gives the impression that Nikon hasn’t held anything back in a bid to protect its DSLRs, and instead has produced the best mirrorless camera it believes it can make right now, that will handle more-or-less like a mini-D850. [...] Naturally the Z 7 has its own foibles and irritations, but overall it gets considerably more right than it does wrong. [Rating of 8.6/10 averaging aspects]

I’m left with the same feelings regarding the “mirrorless vs. DSLR” debate: In order to gain the benefits such as in-body stabilization, great on-sensor autofocus, and a beautiful EVF, there are some quirks that must be put up with. Personally? I’m going to give Nikon’s Z-system time to grow, before I jump on board.
