Mechanically it’s excellent, and optically it’s pretty much as good as you could reasonably ask for the size and price. It handles well too, with smooth focusing and an aperture ring that clicks nicely without being too tight. [...] the only thing missing is autofocus. The fast maximum aperture is great for shooting low-light interiors, while the fantastic cross-frame sharpness stopped-down is ideal for detailed landscapes.

[Tested on 42 MP camera] The Tokina has been the sharpest lens tested by us on the Sony A7R II so far [...] It was a joy to use and the lack of autofocus wasn’t bothersome even for people who are used to automatic focusing. Our biggest reservation concerns the vignetting.

[Tested on 24 MP camera] Good handling (after I got rid of the stupid lens hood), since it is well made and reasonably sized. [...] It is sharp across the frame from f/2 with good bokeh so I never had to worry about stopping down or placing my subject in the center of the image. [...] As always there are some caveats. I think the most significant one is the less than spectacular flare resistance.
