Today Adobe released the new version 2.0 of popular Lightroom product, for cataloging and developing images.

In the Review section of this site, you will find a detailed review of this version: link.

Also the new 4.5 version of Adobe Camera Raw (Photoshop module for developin/treatment of RAW images) has been released, as always, since Lightroom upgrade and ACR upgrade share the same engine. But notice: not all functions available in the Develop module of Lightroom are available in ACR 4.5, that can just import some of the new features of Lightroom (like local or gradient corrections).

PTLens software has been recently released also as an Adobe Lightroom external plugin (both Windows and Mac version) and as an Aperture (Mac) plugin.

PTLens includes a data table with all major DSLR lenses for automatic correction of lens distorsion. It allows also manual correction of chromatic aberration and perspective.

Yesterday, 30th June 2008, Nikon announced the second full-frame DSLR: D700, as a mix from previous D3 and D300 with, of course, some improvements.

Today Canon has announced the new entry-level DSLR: the EOS 1000D (European name) / Digital Rebel XS (USA name).

Pressed by competitors, Canon introduces a model that, with regards to features, is in between 400D and newest 450D, but candidates to become the most popular Canon DSLR.

Here are the differences between the new 1000D and 450D and 400D:

Stellar, a known producer of media recovery software to undelete photos that were accidentally deleted from media cards and digital cameras, has upgraded its solution to recover media files also from drives that work under Windows operating system.

Typical cases where you may want to recover your media: accidental format of the media, extraction of card from camera during writing that has caused file system corruption, shutdown of camera while writing to the media, accidental deletion of photos, and so on.

Nikon has released Capture NX 2, the new version of its image editing and RAW (NEF in Nikon) conversion software.

Some of the main news are:

Last week Olympus has announced the update of E-510: E-520, that is in a way a minor upgrade to its predecessor.

Some of the main improvements are: AF with a contrast detection mechanism, Face Detection, a larger LCD (2.7" with 230K pixels and up to 10x zoom especially useful for live view focusing).

Also dynamic range is said to be improved and a couple of advanced features are taken from the bigger brother E-3: shadow retouch (Automatic Gradation) and wireless flash. An interesting addon will be a water-proof case (sold separately) that will allow divers (or just normal photographers fond of the sea) to shoot with E-520 up to 40 meters under the sea level.

The E-520 will be available in June 2008.

Adobe is submitting the DNG (Digital NeGative) format to ISO (the International Standard Organization) in order to make it a standard and spread its adoption.

IDImager, a very good DAM rich of features (in my opinion the richest DAM available), has been updated to version 4.1

New features include dynamic search (online and/or conditions), quick label/keywords assignments and improved general performances.

You can find the product at this link.

Yesterday, May 13th 2008, Canon has updated the software suite that is bundled with DSLR camera boxes.

In particular it has updated Digital Photo Professional (DPP) to version 3.4, this is the program to develop RAW images.
